Author Biography

  • Lorraine E. Maxwell

    Lorraine E. Maxwell received her Masters’ in city and regional planning from Rutgers University and her Ph.D. in psychology (environmental psychology concentration) from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She was a city planner for a major New Jersey city and a facilities planner with a New York City architecture firm prior to her current position as a professor in the department of Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell University. She teaches programming in design, a graduate course in theories of human-environment relations and a course examining diversity and facility design. Her research interests include children’s and adolescents’ perceptions of their environment, effects of environmental stressors on children’s lives, and the role of the physical environment in child development.
