Abstract

The Trust for Public Land is a national non-profit land conservation organization dedicated to conserving land for people to enjoy as parks, community gardens, recreation areas and wilderness land. Their 1994 report, entitled Healing America's Cities , presents evidence for a powerful link between the availability of recreational facilities and the level of urban crime. In a year when our congressional majority is committed to cutting five billion dollars from anti-crime social programs, it is particularly important to disseminate this information. The editors of Children's Environments are grateful to the Trust for Public Land for their permission to reprint this excerpt from the report - The Editors.
