The Children's Activity Scale
Abstract
The Children's Activity Scale (CAS) was designed to measure the relationship among five scales of activities in children's ongoing behavior in social settings. An important feature of the CAS is its emphasis on object use. Rater, within-subject, and between-subjects reliabilities were assessed with twenty-four 6-month -olds to 5-year-olds in a daycare center. Rater reliability was relatively high, within-subject reliability was moderate, and betweensubjects reliability was typically low. These findings indicate thathe CAS would be useful in a variety of settings, and it would be especially useful to those individuals interested in the role of objects in children's interactions with their environment.
