Abstract

With reference to nature interpretation for children, as it is practiced in Denmark and England, the following presents the argument that what we are doing in the modern welfare state to improve environmental comprehension, especially among children, can be regarded as examples of an expropriation of experiences. The consequence of this might be that future generations will either be indifferent to ecological problems or will regard them as something to be solved by experts - which none of them aspires to be. Referring to the benefits of a project in Leeds, the article will suggest an alternative method for building up self-confidence in children and creating a new type of relationship between them and the environment, using poetry and music as mediators.
